Il prestigio culturale e militare reso tangibile dalle mani sapienti e pazienti di artigiani e costruttori di cui \u00e8 possibile ammirare lo slancio creativo che il susseguirsi dei secoli non ha scalfito. Intorno, un paesaggio rigoglioso attraversato da acque limpide e calde note per le loro propriet\u00e0 salutari. Una dimora imponente che nel tempo continua ad essere &#8216;carta d&#8217;identit\u00e0&#8217; della personalit\u00e0 versatile e complessa dell&#8217;imperatore Adriano, che la costru\u00ec a partire dal 117 d.C.<\/p>\n<p>Nel grande complesso, esteso oltre 120 ettari, e che comprende gli edifici di rappresentanza e termali, il palazzo imperiale, la residenza estiva e la zona monumentale, la riproposizione di tutti gli elementi stilistici, architettonici e culturali dei territori sui quali si estendeva l&#8217;impero romano.<\/p>\n<p>Una sintesi di suggestioni, rimandi, contaminazioni, che avevano conquistato il fine intellettuale Adriano nei suoi lunghi viaggi. Appassionato di arti figurative, poesia e musica, \u201canima vagula blandula\u201d, ovvero \u201cpiccola anima smarrita e soave\u201d come ebbe a definirsi, volle per s\u00e9 un &#8216;luogo della memoria&#8217; divenuto, forse nemmeno consapevolmente, manifesto di intenti, emblema di una moderna concezione del potere improntata all&#8217;efficienza e alla tolleranza, simbolo di una rivoluzione culturale e civile che prediligeva i libri e gli eterni capolavori alle lotte e alle spade.<\/p>\n<p>Le Terme, la Piazza d&#8217;Oro, Il Liceo, l&#8217;Accademia, il Pritaneo, il Pecile a ricordare il colonnato dei filosofi stoici di Atene, il Canopo sul delta del Nilo simile in tutto al santuario dei Serapidi di Alessandria, la Valle di Timpo in Tessaglia, l&#8217;Antinoeion dedicato all&#8217;amato Antinoo, le stanze che ospitavano i soldati romani, le opere idrauliche, i passaggi in superficie e la rete viaria sotterranea: nella Villa Adriana ogni elemento \u00e8 &#8216;microcosmo&#8217; con la propria identit\u00e0, dove gli accostamenti non stridono ma, al contrario, contribuiscono ad una inevitabile fascinazione fatta di storie, luoghi e personaggi straordinari.<\/p>\n<p>Spogliata di molti marmi originari dopo la morte di Adriano, la Villa pass\u00f2 al Demanio Statale solo nel 1870, sebbene i primi studi risalgano al Rinascimento, epoca in cui fu fonte di ispirazione per architetti e disegnatori di ogni provenienza. Gran parte delle statue ed opere scultoree originarie fanno oggi parte delle collezioni dei pi\u00f9 prestigiosi musei internazionali, come i Vaticani ed i Capitolini, il British Museum di Londra ed il Louvre di Parigi. Soltanto i reperti recuperati in anni pi\u00f9 recenti sono ammirabili nel museo di Villa Adriana.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #13130d; font-family: Metropolis, sans-serif; font-size: 1.5em; font-style: normal; font-weight: 600;\">Around<\/span><\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;antica residenza manifesta la sua vocazione di casa degli artisti ogni estate, ospitando il Festival di Villa Adriana, in cui musicisti, letterati e circensi si esibiscono davanti ci\u00f2 che resta del sogno dell&#8217;imperatore. A poco pi\u00f9 di 3 chilometri un altro itinerario da non perdere: sono i giardini di Villa d&#8217;Este, cinquecentesca residenza estiva del cardinale Ippolito II d&#8217;Este. Tra i luoghi da visitare nei dintorni, oltre alle vicine Terme Acque Albule, tra le pi\u00f9 innovative strutture d&#8217;Europa per le cure termali, il parco di Villa Gregoriana, un&#8217;armoniosa combinazione di natura, grotte e resti archeologici. Villa Adriana, in Tivoli, was the residence of Emperor Hadrian, an open-minded man of great culture and strong will, who decided to build his personal refuge in the peaceful Roman countryside, famous for its hot water springs and its green landscape. D and framed by an amazing nature, which shows its full magnificence in spring or summer time, Villa Adriana is a manifesto of Hadrian personality, his true heritage. It includes the Imperial palace and other representative buildings, but also temples and baths, in addition to the summer residence and the monumental area. The area gives the tourist a more than accurate idea of the architectural traditions of the countries over which the Empire extended its power, and deeply impressed the Emperor during his travels.<\/p>\n<p>Hadrian was, in fact, an intellectual, lover of the arts, music and poetry more than the weapons and wars, which nevertheless fought and won during part of his Empire.<\/p>\n<p>He defined himself \u201c<em>animula vagula blandula\u201d(\u201cRoving amiable little soul\u201d)<\/em> and he decided to create a small world of his own, where he could rest and meditate, far from the chaotic Rome.<\/p>\n<p>Walking through the Villa, it is easy to see recollections of Greece in the Thermae, the Golden Square, or the Pecile complex, all of which remind of the environment of Athens\u2019s\u00a0 Stoic philosophers, while the Canopus and Serapeum clearly refer to Alexandria of Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>Every single element of the Villa, from the Antinoeion to the waterworks and the underground roads, can easily transport the tourist in a safe travel around the ancient Roman Empire in one of its most glorious moments, whispering stories of a world which no longer exists but it is not lost, for it is right in front of the visitors\u2019 eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Though finely preserved and restored, the Villa has not always been left unspoilt, for it was often exploited, through the centuries, as a source of precious building material; it has been property of the Italian state since 1870, but it has been an inspiration for artists and architects from all over the world since the Italian Renaissance; for this reason, many of its statues and other kinds of sculptures can be found in many great European museums as for example the British Museum in London or the Louvre in Paris has today, as it hosts, every summer, the <em>Festival of Villa Adriana<\/em>, which brings together musicians and other artists in a cultural reunion in this wonderful frame.<\/p>\n<p>If the thirst for wonder has not yet abated after this plunge in the Roman Empire atmosphere, the same area offers another step in the past, even though it is a little more modern: just a few Kms away from Villa Adriana lies a spectacular Renaissance masterpiece: Villa D\u2019Este, the magnificent Residence of Cardinal Ippolito II d\u2019Este, which decided to built this extraordinary Villa and enshrine it in a wonderful garden in which even the smallest water work is in fact a masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>The area offers other naturalistic wonders as the park of Villa Gregoriana, where the tourist can walk in a peaceful combination of nature and archaeology and finally relax in the prestigious baths of the Acque Albule, where modern wellness treatment mix with ancient Thermal traditions.<\/p>\n<p>And last,
