Figure tratteggiate con colori intensi e vivaci che a distanza di secoli ci consentono di conoscere i riti, le credenze, le tecniche di produzione e le abitudini di vita di un popolo fiero e combattente dalle origini misteriose.<\/p>\n<p>E&#8217; la necropoli etrusca di Tarquinia, in provincia di Viterbo, bene Unesco dal 2004, posta sulla collina dei Monterozzi da cui prende il nome ed estesa per circa sei chilometri. La necropoli etrusca dei Monterozzi comprende circa 6.000 tombe a tumulo scavate nella roccia, 200 delle quali dipinte, datate tra il VII e il II secolo a.C. Le camere funerarie, modellate sugli interni delle abitazioni, presentano le pareti decorate a fresco, su un leggero strato di intonaco, con scene di carattere magico-religioso raffiguranti banchetti, danzatori e suonatori, giocolieri, paesaggi, demoni e divinit\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>Il culto dei morti, in questa popolazione di lingua non indoeuropea e dalla provenienza geografica incerta, \u00e8 una delle cifre distintive della civilt\u00e0 che ha dominato l&#8217;Etruria, una zona corrispondente alla Toscana, all&#8217;Umbria fino al fiume Tevere e al Lazio settentrionale, sebbene tracce degli etruschi siano state ritrovate anche in Campania, nella pianura padana e nel Veneto meridionale.<\/p>\n<p>Situata nei pressi del fiume Marta, Tarquinia \u00e8 stata senza dubbio il centro egemone della cultura etrusca, esercitando una profonda influenza sulla civilt\u00e0 romana, con la quale si fuse un secolo prima dell&#8217;avvento di Cristo. Della necropoli etrusca sono attualmente visitabili le tombe del Cacciatore, dei Giocolieri, della Pulcella, Cardarelli, della Fustigazione, Fiore di Loto, delle Leonesse, dei Gorgoneion, dei Caronti, dei Leopardi, delle Baccanti, della Caccia e Pesca, dell&#8217;Orco con la\u00a0 delicata immagine di una fanciulla nota come \u201cla monna Lisa dell&#8217;antichit\u00e0\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Parte dei dipinti, staccati da alcune tombe allo scopo di preservarli, sono custoditi nel Museo nazionale Tarquiniese, ospitato nel cinquecentesco Palazzo Vitelleschi, insieme a ceramiche, utensili, bronzi, gioielli e sculture provenienti dagli scavi della necropoli ed ai sarcofagi di maggior pregio.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4>Around<\/h4>\n<p>Rinomata in tutta Italia per la locale arte orafa e la produzione di terracotte in stile etrusco, Tarquinia si trova a 90 chilometri da Roma. Poco distante dalla necropoli, sull&#8217;altopiano della Civita, sono ancora osservabili i resti dell&#8217;antica citt\u00e0 etrusca, della quale rimangono parte della cinta muraria ed il basamento di un tempio, l&#8217;Ara della Regina. L&#8217;ambiente circostante \u00e8 di notevole interesse naturalistico e scientifico per la presenza della Riserva naturale delle saline di Tarquinia caratterizzata da rare specie faunistiche. Burial chambers decorated with amazing \u201cfrescos\u201d on a light plasterwork, depicting many kind of scenes, from magical and religious themes to banquets, from dancers and players to jugglers, demons and divinities and landscapes involve the visitor in an immersive experience, as if they were looking outside a window looking out on the Past.<\/p>\n<p>This kind of cult, almost a kind of worship towards the dead, is one of the main characteristics of this ancient population, whose origin is uncertain and whose language had not an Indo- European \u00a0\u00a0matrix. They dominated the Etruria, an area which extends from Tuscany to Umbria up to the river Tevere and to the Northern part of Lazio, even though their traces have been found in Campania and Southern Veneto.<\/p>\n<p>Tarquinia was built in the vicinity of Marta river. It was the undisputed centre of the Etruscan culture and had a significant impact on the Roman civilization, with which it mixed about one century b.C..<\/p>\n<p>Among the tombs which can be visited there are: \u201c<em>Tomba del Cacciatore<\/em>\u201d (Tomb of the Hunting Pavilion), <em>\u201cTomba dei giocolieri\u201d<\/em>(Tomb of the Jugglers)<em>, \u201cTomba della Pulcella\u201d<\/em>(Tomb of the Maiden)<em>, \u201cTomba Cardarelli\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of Cardarelli)<em>, \u201cTomba della Fustigazione\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the fustigation)<em>, \u201cTomba del Fiore di Loto\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the Lotus Flower)<em>, \u201cTomba dlle Leonesse\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the Lionesses)<em>, \u201cTomba dei Gorgoneion\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the Gorgoneion)<em>, \u201cTomba dei Caronti\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the Charons)<em>, \u201cTomba dei Leopardi\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the Leopards)<em>, \u201cTomba delle Baccanti\u201d<\/em> (Tomb of the Bacchantes)<em>, \u201cTomba della Caccia e della Pesca\u201d<\/em> (Hunting and Fishing Tomb)<em>, \u201cTomba dell\u2019Orco\u201d <\/em>(Tomb of Orcus), in which is depicted the effigy of a delicate maiden generally known as \u201cThe Mona Lisa of the Ancient times\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Some parts of the paintings have been removed and transported in the 1500s Palazzo Vitelleschi, hosting Tarquinia National Museum in order to be better preserved, along with ceramics, tools, bronze objects, jewels and sculptures from the Necropolis and the most important sarcophagi.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4>Around<\/h4>\n<p>Tarquinia lies 90 kms from Rome. It is nationally renown for its local goldsmiths\u2019 art and its terracotta production. A short distance from the Necropolis, on Civita plateau, the ancient ravines of the Etruscan city, part of its defensive walls and a temple foundation, known as \u201cAra della Regina (The Queen Altar)\u201d still dominate the area. Its surroundings have also an environmental importance thanks to the presence of the Tarquinia Saline (salt-mines) Reserve, rich in rare fauna species. And for a moment of relax, why not choosing the Baths of Viterbo? Only 45 kms away and also known as \u201cThe Papal City\u201d, it is famous for its many religious and noble
